This year we had several repeat buyers and several puppies sold in the same area's~ "So~ ROAD TRIP"! again and again! But each one was well worth the time in the car mile after mile, state after state, day after day!
It was great to meet everyone in person, and it was wonderful to see some of our former "cedar ridge puppies", all grown up- watching Mabel with her great tricks and seeing her awards on the wall for agility!
Seeing Buck perform with his owner- speechless! We are so grateful for the buyers (family) we have come to know over the years. AND the new ones we add each year.
What makes all the hours of sleepless nights, Vet/feed store bills,
no vacation, Always having dog hair everywhere?
***Seeing the new families with such joy for their new family member.
**Having a Vet office from a far away state call and say
Your puppy has been chosen as our #1 puppy for 2014 for "Overall Best Puppy" picked from the 354 new puppies their office had in 2014! WOW!
** Knowing that one of these is going to make a little boys life easier ~ when he is fighting so many battles each and every day.
***Watching one become a certified Therapy dog/ Hearing how great of a Herding dog/ Watching a video of a CedarRidge dog competing , And just receiving updates and pictures everyday from our "Family"~~ Thank You all for helping us have the BEST life we could ask for.!
Where has the time gone? It was just spring!
We have kept busy~ we have been able to meet several of the families that have added a Cedar Ridge Australian Puppy to their family this summer.
Not sure how many miles the "ole dog jeep" has tracked up this summer.
It has been great to meet first hand these families. Most have driven at least 4 hours some as much as 20 hours each way. We have crossed several state lines as well.
I have spent the last several days brushing out the second round of undercoats. In the spring when I do this the birds take off with it as fast as it is dropped- not so much in the summer so I can see the results.
We had a wonderful week of cooler temps for the District Fair and I'm sure the livestock really enjoyed it. (It is usually in the 90's and humidity the same) this year we had mid 70's! Rare for here.
We have also had a Wet summer to the hay crops have been trying. Black berry harvest -planned for the morning. The garden and it friends (weeds) are doing well- haven't had to water it once!
Fall show season will be upon us before we know it. First one is in 2 weeks.
Myself, a few friends and the State Park will be hosting a 2 day "Pet EXPO" later this fall~ so we have started planning for the events.
We are getting ready for our Fall ready pups to arrive. Check back for new litters! Stay cool~
A Wild & Wonderful Week! (Us and 1/2 the kids!)
Where does the time go? Seems like just yesterday our three youngest were not old enough to go to school. Now they are all grown up!
This last week has been a roller coaster~ in more ways then I can explain.
This last weekend was to be our youngest daughters wedding.
Earlier in the week we found out our youngest son's wonderful girlfriend would be representing Springfield in the "Miss Missouri" pageant this fall.
We are so happy for her and we hope she is the next Miss Missouri!
**Friday night ~ rehearsal ~ everyone is in the church- and """"" Our oldest daughter walks in""""" (she is in south America-as far as we knew) Flood of emotions for all of us, She couldn't have made her little sister happier. It was so good to see/hear and hold her.
**Saturday~~~The wedding was Beautiful and we are so happy to have ADAM as a official family member.
**Sunday -Rain/Sleet/Snow~ what happened to spring? Our oldest daughter has a surprise for us by the end of the day too. Her boyfriend of 4 years has proposed!
~~~~So in one week we had a wedding, a engagement and a whole lot of emotions-OH yeah~ the farm still went on and we have several new litters of puppies! Pictures soon.
Time seems to go faster with each passing year. Every year I want time to slow down. However 2014 can not be over soon enough! Is it possible that my tears will wash it away faster?
This year will bring many changes to our lives as individuals and as a family.
Jan 1st-We need to postpone the building of the shop and Re build the barn (collapsed due to ice and snow) and repair the other roofs damaged by the last snow storm.
Jan 4th-Our youngest daughters bridal shower-Happy time! A day to be remembered-- It also brings many emotions for it was this date 1994 that my mom was diagnosed with terminal cancer and we would loose her in just 5 short months--What brought that crashing back down? I went to "unearth" (a word my Granny used for things that hadn't been seen but weren't forgotten) the Cake plate that belonged to MY Great-Grandmother for the bridal shower cake- It has been packed away since we moved to the Midwest in 1994 -but not forgotten!
-What do I find packed with it- designated "wedding gifts for our daughters " from My mom (they were only 5-8 years old when she passed) WOW emotion over load.
Jan 5th- Our oldest daughter leaves for a Mission Trip out of the USA for 11 months! She will be in 11 different countries over the eleven months. I have very mixed emotions about the trip for many reasons -Not sure how I will come to grips with her being so far away with so little means of communication.
March will be here before we know it (I hope) Kennel Continuing Education Seminars for the latest updates, regulations and NEW rules.
March 15th our youngest daughters Wedding- Will be a Happy day, but we will be missing a piece of our Family puzzle.
April show season will start for the dogs. I have four young ones to start. Will be attending shows in 4-5 states.
May~ I'm hosting a two day "ACA Dog Show" at our Beautiful Mammoth Springs State Park. Then Five days to catch up then Randy's off to Oregon to help Mother move as she has sold the farm.
June -July-August > Hot, Humid,& Half way (Daughter returning) She will have her birthday in which COUNTRY? not sure but it wont be HOME!
If you have tried to follow my Blog--it's hard because I'm not a Blogger ~ Plain and simple ~ I'm a farmer always have been always will be and have NEVER wanted anything else!
So for this Feb blog ~ a small update and a request!
This winter had been hard and cold. Colder then normal, longer then normal- is there a normal when your life is ran by mother nature? Probably not! But it does go on!
Our Children and Grandchildren are well-Our oldest daughter is off on a year long mission trip around the world. Just started month two/county #2. Our youngest daughter is only a month away from her wedding day. Our oldest son is about to be a Grandfather (oh that hurt to even type!)LOL
The other two boys are working hard, Healthy and Happy. Life is Good!
You may have ask why we raise the breeds of dogs that we do! SO Please read the opening page for each of the breeds on our site, as I have given the "Story" how each became part of our lives. I do love Dogs not every breed but most and I do appreciate each for their qualities but these few are deeply embedded in my HEART and SOLE.
The ground hog says 6 more weeks of winter! So by the time spring is here~ we will have finished calving, Tornado season will be just around the corner, we will have SEVERAL litters of new puppies at Cedar Ridge , flowers will be blooming, wedding will have happened, the Great Grandbaby arrived, taxes will be done, Potato's in the ground, foals will be due and we will be hoping summer is productive yet "not to hot"! Stay warm until next time!
We have sunshine and a big 13 degrees at noon today, AND no water!
Pump froze even with the extra heat source. Still working on getting the line thawed. Glad I have extra water set aside. New puppies aren't due until mid of next week -hope its warmer weather for their arrival!
The puppies all arrived in decent weather a little colder then we would like but they are all doing well. We have a small litter of 3 Australian Shepherd (new female ), a litter of four Australian Terriers (CH.Prince and Showy) & a litter of Australian Cattle Dogs , 6 Reds and Blues (Jake & Katie) Pictures at 3-4 weeks of age.
Prediction VS Reality:
Prediction: Up to a inch of Ice/ Very low temps/ 2-4" of Snow
Reality: 2-3" of Sleet/Ice w/additional 13+" of snow-topped w/Freezing rain.
Wednesday, they have cancelled school for the next two days- Our shipper for the puppies has also cancelled for this week due to the dropping temps and incoming ice storm. People are unhappy in TX and NY-Sorry :(
Thursday by noon the ice was arriving--mostly pelleted in form. The ice was to stop by midnight, Hmmm!
When Dark fell we had almost 2" of Sleet/ice on the ground. When I did my midnight and 2AM checks the ice was still arriving. Temp was very cold. New puppies were very glad we still had power!
What would day light bring? We had snow and better then 6" and still coming down- 8AM we had been blessed with 8 plus inches. STILL snowing.
Roads are very Slick and getting worse. EVERYTHING is Cancelled.
When darkness came we had over 13" but at this point we don't even want to measure ! Have everyone tucked in nicely. Power Please stay on!
Main Hwy linking Memphis, TN and the Canadian Border is shut down due to many accidents in a 16 mile area between our main town and the next town.
Saturday- It came and went- Between feedings and dragging the 200' of water hose to water everyone & draining the hose twice and breaking ice in between not to mention bringing wood and staying thawed out, how do you clean when there is this much snow! We went thru four sets of clothes each today.
Puppies that are less then a year have never seen snow are even though the temp is never above freezing they are having fun-the little ones --don't venture out to scary!
to be cont.
